Presentation:
Award winning Filmmaker Brian Lindstrom will join us this evening to provide a glimpse into his upcoming film Alien Boy, the highly anticipated feature length documentary about the life and death ofJames Chasse.
Brian will provide a preview of his work in progress and discuss the process of making Alien Boy. He will explore a bit of the technical challenges his team overcame in the making of this film. He will introduce us to some of the players interviewed for this film and will speak a little bit about the Mental Health Association of Portland. We will learn some of what is involved in producing an independent documentary about a highly charged, politically volatile subject, and examine strategies to focus the audience’s attention on the humanity of James Chasse rather than the political football his death became.
If time permits, Brian may show Old Town Diary, his short narrative/documentary hybrid starring Art Alexakis and featuring candid interviews with people coping with mental illness and addiction. This project was the result of a six month collaboration with participants in the Community Engagement Program. The Portland film community helped out in a big way, including cinematographer John Campbell, editor/camera operator Justin Alpern, grip/electrician John Banholzer and Gearhead Grip and Electric. |
